A work system Improvement: This is how we do it.

This presentation explores how a manager identified and addressed the problem of inadequate documentation and timeliness in child welfare present danger assessments. It covers the creation of a shared vision and the use of various tools and techniques, including the DISC Assessment for improving communication, strategic planning, SWOT analysis, fishbone diagrams, random quality assurance reviews, and ongoing monitoring. By applying these strategies and resources, we successfully enhanced the sufficiency of present danger assessments ahead of our targeted goal date.

LaShawn Royal-Moore is a dedicated professional with the Department of Children and Families, where she has made significant contributions over her 24-year career. Her journey with the department has encompassed a variety of roles, including Public Assistant Specialist in ACCESS - Economic Self-Sufficiency, Child Protective Investigator, Quality Assurance Specialist, Operations Management Consultant II, Program Administrator, and her current position as Southern Regional Operations Manager with the Office of Child & Family Well-Being (OCFW).

LaShawn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Bethune-Cookman University, and both a Master of Social Work and a Master of Public Administration from Florida International University. In her current role, she is responsible for overseeing the operations of child protection services in the Southern Region, ensuring thorough investigations and assessments of child abuse, abandonment, and neglect, while also connecting families with vital community, prevention, and case management services.

An accomplished trainer, LaShawn became a certified trainer through Broward Community College and has been sharing her expertise on various child welfare topics ever since. In 2019, she further enhanced her credentials by obtaining her field instructor certification from Florida International University and now supervises BSW and MSW interns from colleges and universities across the country. LaShawn has been a board member of the Florida Professional Society on the Abuse of Children since 2022. In 2024, LaShawn proudly earned her certification in the Certified Public Manager (CPM) program.
