Steven C. Braun, P.E.
Steve Braun, a notable public servant, currently holds the position of District 4 Secretary with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). His journey with FDOT began in 1994 as a Professional Engineer Trainee after graduating from Clemson University. Steve is originally from South Africa but has called South Florida home for most of his life.
Steve is a registered Professional Engineer and a Certified Public Manager. He has enriched his leadership skills through the FDOT Leadership Academy, the Florida Engineering Leadership Institute (FELI), and the AASHTO Executive Leadership Institute. Steve's career includes a tapestry of roles, each marked by his dedication, collaboration, and positive impact. Embarking in Roadway Design, he laid the technical foundation for his intricate understanding of transportation systems. His tenure in the Planning and Environmental Office saw him spearheading pivotal PD&E studies, most notably the Indian Street Bridge Environmental Impact Statement and the I-595 Express Lanes PD&E Study. Secretary Braun served in two Department Head positions, the Planning & Environmental Administrator and the District Design Engineer, prior to his role as Director of Transportation Development.
As District Secretary, Steve is now at the helm of a team of almost 700 dedicated FDOT employees responsible for the execution of an impressive $5.6 Billion multi-modal transportation work program across Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River counties. Steve Braun's journey from a Professional Engineer Trainee to District 4 Secretary stands as a testament to his commitment, leadership, and impact on transportation and the communities it serves.
